Muscat, Oman’s port capital, sits on the Gulf of Oman surrounded by mountains and desert. With history dating back to antiquity, it mixes high-rises and upscale shopping malls with clifftop landmarks such as the 16th-century Portuguese forts, Al Jalali and Mirani, looming over Muscat Harbor. Its modern, marble-clad Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, with 50m dome and prodigious Persian carpet, can accommodate 20,000 people.

Muscat’s old Muttrah quarter is known for its labyrinthine souk and busy fish market, as well as the Corniche waterfront promenade. To the east is the Sultan’s ceremonial residence, colorful Al Alam Palace, built in contemporary Islamic style. Nearby are numerous museums including the Bait Al Zubair, focusing on Omani culture and crafts. The Royal Opera House presents international performances, and Shatti al Qurum is a popular public beach. Just outside Muscat, lagoon reefs at Bandar Jissah and Bandar Khayran are diving destinations, as is Fahal Island, a striking limestone formation.

The best time to visit Oman is between October – March, during the winter months, when the weather is pleasant and cool. April and May are the shoulder seasons, when the weather is still pleasant, but warmer than in the winter months.

Itinerary

DAY 1ARRIVE MUSCAT

Arrive Muscat International Airport. After Immigration, proceed to arrival hall and meet our local representative for your transfer to hotel.
Check-in at hotel. Day free for leisure. Overnight in Muscat.

DAY 2HALF DAY MYSTICAL MUSCAT TOUR (B)

Breakfast at the hotel.
Depart to visit the Grand Mosque (except on Friday & other public holidays), highlight of the Muscat city. The full name of this magnificent iconic structure is the “Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque”, which dominates the skyline of Muscat. The mosque featuring a blend of Islamic, Middle Eastern, and Omani architectural styles took 6 years and 7 months to complete. It has World’s largest Chandelier, World’s second largest carpet in Prayer Hall, delightful art & interior, beautiful mosaics and ceilings throughout the mosque. Drive along the waterfront Corniche visiting the colourful Mutrah Souq. Photo stop to the magnificent Al Alam Palace, also known as Sultan’s Palace, is one among the six royal residences of Sultan Qaboos located in Muscat. It is surrounded by the Al Mirani and Al Jalali Forts built in the 16th century by the Portuguese. Proceed to visit Bait Al Zubair Museum to see an extensive collection of ancient weapons, including khanjar, household equipments, and costumes. Proceed back to the Hotel. Overnight in Muscat.
NOTE : Ladies to be fully covered and to carry a head scarf and men should wear trousers.

DAY 3MUSCAT TO JEBEL AKHDAR (B)

Breakfast at the hotel and check-out.
Proceed to Jebel Akhdar via the ancient city of Nizwa also known as the “Pearl of Islam”, Birkat al Mauz & Wadi Bani Habib. Photo stop at Nizwa Round tower Fort – a fantastic example of historic Omani architecture & the Nizwa Souk. Drive to the pretty village of Birkat Al Mauz. Enjoy a walk through the lush green date plantations. Then proceed to Wadi Al Madeen. From here a 36 km stretch of winding road takes one to Jebel Al Akhdar (2000 mts above sea level) the green jewel of the Al Hajjar mountain ranges, a truly unique spot in the Arabian Peninsula. The Jebel Akhdar or Al Jabal Al Akhdar is part of Al Hajar Mountains range in Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate of Oman. It rises to a height of 2,980 m (9,780 ft) and encompasses the Saiq Plateau at 2,000 m above sea level. Jebel Akhdar is famous for its labyrinth of wadis and terraced orchards, where pomegranates, apricots and roses grow in abundance due to its mild Mediterranean climate. The villages of Saiq, Wadi Bani Habib (the village of the old houses) & Al Ain overlook a spectacular landscape of dramatic peaks, gorges and wadis.

DAY 4JEBEL AKHDAR TO WAHIBA SANDS (B)

Breakfast at the hotel & check-out.
Proceed to the Wahiba Sands ((also known as Sharqiyah or Sharqiya Sands). In the heart of eastern Oman, the Wahiba Sands is an ocean of regular dunes that seem to stretch out endlessly. Pale gold at noon, the towering piles of sand shift between rich yellow and coppery orange when the sun is at lower angles. It is home to the traditional Bedouin tribe who are known for their hospitality, honesty and fierce independence. Proceed to Wadi Bani Khalid which is regarded as being one of the best wadis in Oman and is contradictory to Wahiba Sands. It is wet all year round as it is fed by a natural spring. An oasis as clear as sparking water and shady date palms set against a backdrop of dry, craggy mountains. Enjoy swimming there.

DAY 5WAHIBA SANDS TO RAS AL HADD (B)

Breakfast at the camp & check-out.
Enjoy dune driving before leaving the desert. From Mintarib proceed to Bilad Bani Bu Ali and drive along the coastline to Ras Al Junaiyz a sanctuary for the green turtles. Check into the hotel. At night we have a short drive to the Ras Al Jinz Scientific Centre where we are escorted to the beach by trained guides to watch the turtles coming into nest on the sands. Overnight in Ras Al Hadd.

DAY 6RAS AL HADD TO MUSCAT (B)

Breakfast at the hotel & check-out.
Proceed for Muscat. Enroute visit Fish Jetty & Sur Dhow factory (except Friday). Thereafter proceed to the Bimah Sinkhole, a spectacular limestone crater with blue green water at the bottom. On clear sunny days while driving along the coast one might chance to see sharks in the deep blue water or fleet footed Gazelle sprint across the landscape. Visit the picturesque Wadi Arabayeen with its deep pools of water set among the date palms. Driving past the fishing village of Quriyat, get an opportunity of spotting Flamingos and Eagles at an inland stream.
Arrive Muscat, check-in at the hotel. Overnight in Muscat.

DAY 7DOLPHIN WATCHING – MUSCAT DEPARTURE (B)

Breakfast at the hotel & check-out. Experience the wonderful world of Dolphin watching in Oman – the most amazing package to feel the rhythm of sea waves while watching glimmering waters. The tour starts from Marina Bandar Al-Rawdha. With the guidance of experienced staff onboard, spot different species of dolphins such as Spinner dolphins, Risso’s Dolphins, Bottlenose Dolphins, Striped Dolphins and many more. Not every trip guarantees a sighting, but you are sure to enjoy a trip out to sea and enhance your knowledge of nature’s most fascinating marine mammals.
Transfer to Muscat International Airport for return flight.
